Post-COVID conditions or Long COVID has become a public concern in the health care community. Ever since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, people have reported physical, neurological and psychological symptoms consisting of, but not limited to, memory impairment, lack of attention, lack of focus, anxiety, depression, PTSD related symptoms, fatigue, and executive dysfunction. The CDC defined Post-COVID conditions as “some people who have been infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 can experience long term effects from their infection, known as post COVID conditions (PCC) or Long COVID”. In July of 2021, post COVID condition or Long COVID was added as a recognized condition that could result in a disability under the ADA, section 504, and section 1557.
Post COVID conditions can include a wide range of persistent health problem that can last weeks, months, or years. These clinical conditions are found more often in people who had severe COVID-19 illness, however, anyone who has been infected with the virus can experience post COVID conditions.
Your health care provider considers a diagnosis of Post-COVID conditions based on your health history, and if you had a diagnosis of COVID-19 prior, either by positive test or by symptoms or exposure, as well as doing a health examination.
Post COVID conditions or long COVID has become a main concern for the scientific and medical communities. They have used many different possible forms of treatments ranging from special diets, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, IV Nutritional therapy, PEMF (pulsed electromagnetic field therapy), photobiomodulation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and others.
A peer reviewed research article was published last year on July 12, 2022, called “Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Improves Neurocognitive Functions and Symptoms of Post-COVID Conditions: Randomized Control Trial” This randomized, sham-control, double blind trial evaluated the effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) on post-COVID-19 patients with ongoing symptoms for at least 3 months after confirmed infection. The randomly selected seventy-three patients received daily 40 sessions of HBOT (n = 37) or sham (n = 36. They used special questionnaires, functional MRI (to evaluate blood flow in brain regions), and MRI DTI scans (evaluates the microstructure of white matter tracts in the brain). Clinical outcomes were associated with significant improvement in brain MRI perfusion and microstructural changes. They concluded that HBOT can induce neuroplasticity and improve cognitive, psychiatric, fatigue, sleep and pain symptoms of patients suffering from post-COVID-19 conditions.
The Oxygen Clinic offers a specialized research based protocol centered on the person’s biological individuality that can help improve your symptoms based on your medical history, physical assessment, functional diagnostic tests including QEEG, innovative specialized lab tests, and neuropsychological assessments. Treatment involves HBOT, nutraceuticals, IV nutritional therapy, evidence-based nutrition, and advanced cutting edge neuromodulation technologies.
